2013.03.13: 160 m contest news

Steve,AK4Y: 160 meter contest was great. Had a few members come to the mountain on Friday night & work for a time but Saturday night was the big night with about 12 people or more dropping in at different times during the night to work 160 & snack on two crock pots of homemade chilly & homemade pie from XYL Retta.
There were over 180 stations worked with a score over 15,000. Jack has exact numbers & I don't know what the total number of states worked was. Rick ND4Z loaned us an amp this year & also worked some stations between eating chilly & pie. It will take about a month & a half for them to get the results out. The West Coast & Western states didn't open up for us but we heard one station Saturday night saying he had worked all but one state at that time. I think the center states had an advantage this year. There were also a good many DX stations on & we got about 6 or 8 of them too.

2013.02.10: Shack News

The DFARG Radio Shack grew substantially during 2012. Many new (to DFARG) items are now a part of our operating position. New transceivers, both VHF/UHF and HF have appeared. We now have 2 wide screen displays for TV and computer use. Time-Warner provides us with 24 hour news and weather channels as well as entertainment channels. Nice desktops are available for operating positions. Books and magazines are available along with a refrigerator and microwave for snacks.

2013.02.10: Emergency Operations

DFARG has applied ( many thanks to K4RWN) for a FEMA Community Resilience Grant to fund the installation of the 30 kW generator to provide The Shack with emergency power. Also, we have acquired a trailer mounted 33.5 metre (110 feet) tower that we can put to good use. We have it stored behind the Little Mountain Fire Department if you wish to examine it.
